The Edgewood Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Hawken Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Edgewood has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Edgewood came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Madison, falling 15-4. The Warriors have struggled against the Blue Streaks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Zane Naylor was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hawken waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Everything went their way against the Lions as they made off with a 13-3 win. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by ten runs or more this season.
Cole Twardokus made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Twardokus was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
In other batting news, Maddox Ruch was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Miles Hamilton, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Hawken always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Hawken's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Edgewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Edgewood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hawken struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
