The Douglas Tigers pushed their score all the way to 63 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Reno 67-63. While losing is never fun, Douglas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while Reno is ranked ninth).
Despite the loss, Douglas still got an impressive performance from Jett Lehmann, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Lehmann set a new season high mark in blocks with three. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Pitts, who scored 17 points.
Reno got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Harvey Smerdon out in front who scored 19 points. Smerdon has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Noah Hackbusch was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Douglas' loss ended a three-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 1-8. As for Reno, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.
Douglas will be home for the holidays to greet Bishop Manogue at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Reno, they will head out on the road to face off against Carson at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Carson is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
