It was a good run, but the Fernley Vaqueros unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 65-45 walloping at the hands of Fairmont Prep. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Fernley came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 14th in Nevada, while Fairmont Prep is ranked 103rd in California).
Defeat or not, Fernley got some senior leadership from Anthony Winters who scored 15 points along with 6 assists and 5 steals and Johnnie Williams who scored 18 points. Williams scored a full 40% of Fernley's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Sheldon Jacobson, who scored 6 points.
Fernley's loss dropped their record down to 3-1. As for Fairmont Prep, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.
Fernley's road trip will continue as they head out to face Founders Classical Academy at 1:00 p.m. on December 2nd. As for Fairmont Prep, they will square off against Hug at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
