The Bethel-Tate Tigers will face off against the Reading Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Bethel-Tate has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Reading will arrive with four straight wins.
It was a proper cat-fight when Bethel-Tate took on Felicity-Franklin on Monday. The Tigers took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals. Tigers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cardinals since on Monday.
Landen Brumfield made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That run marked the first that he has scored this season. Simon Houser was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Reading). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Deer Park a 28-0 shutout on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Blue Devils with their most commanding win of the season.
Jason Lunsford made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Lunsford was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.
In other pitching news, Cole Marksberry looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Connor Davis was incredible, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with four runs, two triples, and five RBI. Reading is undefeated when Davis posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Hess, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Reading hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deer Park struck out ten times.
Bethel-Tate's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Reading, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
