St. Anthony is a perfect 3-0 against Hutsonville/Palestine since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
St. Anthony will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Brownstown/St. Elmo on Monday. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 16-1 win.
St. Anthony let Ava Walton and Ady Rios run wild. Walton went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Rios went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Walton has posted since back in March. Jackie Vonderheide was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
St. Anthony hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Hutsonville/Palestine took on Oblong on Monday. The Tigers blew past the Panthers 12-4. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won five in a row.
Hayden Monan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lily Holcomb was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Brynn Griffin, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one double.
St. Anthony now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Hutsonville/Palestine, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Anthony hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Hutsonville/Palestine struggles in that department as they've averaged .383. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went St. Anthony's way against Hutsonville/Palestine in their previous meeting back in June of 2021, as St. Anthony made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
