The Sebastian River Sharks are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will face off against the Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Sebastian River had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Rockledge on Thursday. The Sharks were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Raiders.
Kendra Powers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 14 Ks.
At the plate, Rily Biggers was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three doubles, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla McKinney, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
Sebastian River always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rockledge only posted an OBP of .357.
Meanwhile, Melbourne Central Catholic took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Merritt Island 2-0. The Hustlers haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Not much got past Lilly Rollinger, who gave up just five hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Merritt Island off the board.
On the hitting side, Melbourne Central Catholic saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abigayle Prayto, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Sebastian River beat Melbourne Central Catholic 8-3 when the teams last played back in March of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sharks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
