Upper St. Clair is 5-0 against South Fayette since August of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Upper St. Clair Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the South Fayette Lions at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Upper St. Clair is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than South Fayette in Pennsylvania (Upper St. Clair is ranked 26th, while South Fayette is ranked 97th).
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Upper St. Clair ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They slipped by Moon Area 43-42. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Upper St. Clair was the better team in the second half.
Upper St. Clair got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mason Chambers out in front who rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Julian Dahlem also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, South Fayette was the victim of a rough 49-29 loss at the hands of Bethel Park on Friday.
Despite the loss, South Fayette had strong showings from Michael Gimigliano, who picked up 234 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and Nico Lamonde, who threw for 418 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Gimigliano was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 64 yards.
The victory makes it two in a row for Upper St. Clair and bumps their season record up to 7-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.5 points per game. As for South Fayette, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Everything came up roses for Upper St. Clair against South Fayette when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 35-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Upper St. Clair since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
