Lake Marion has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Hampton County Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Lake Marion beat Academic Magnet 44-39. The victory was just what Lake Marion needed coming off of a 93-33 defeat in their prior match.
Lake Marion found their leader in underclassman Breion Shivers, who scored 14 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Patrick Guest, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Hampton County scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They breezed by Barnwell at home to the tune of 89-41. Hampton County is really starting to get used to good results now that the team's won 11 straight.
Hampton County's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Joel Gittings, who scored 15 points, and Kavon Chisolm, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gittings has scored all season. Xaviar Garvin was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Lake Marion's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-17. As for Hampton County, they pushed their record up to 21-5 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Wednesday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Lake Marion have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 39% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Hampton County struggles in that department as they've made 44.3% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Lake Marion might still be hurting after the 80-55 loss they got from Hampton County when the teams last played back in February of 2022. Can Lake Marion avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
