Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 15 to 7 on the offensive boards, a fact the Coventry Comets proved on Tuesday. They came out on top against Springfield by a score of 51-38. Given Coventry's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Springfield is ranked 477th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Coventry got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Reggie Edwards out in front who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Dinan, who scored five points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Jacob Thomas and Anthony Berger certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Thomas scored eight points, while Berger scored eight points. Berger continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played.
Coventry's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Springfield, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coventry will take on Norton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Springfield, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Woodridge at 7:00 p.m. Woodridge has insisted on making their lastfour contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-2 during that stretch of close contests.
