It was a good run, but the South Central Rebels unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 63-33 loss at the hands of Whitefield Academy. While losing is never fun, South Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 276th in Indiana, while Whitefield Academy is ranked 42nd in Kentucky).
Whitefield Academy was led to victory by Noel Smith and Allison Spieker. Smith scored 12 points along with six rebounds and six steals, while Spieker went 9 for 16 from beyond the arc en route to 32 points and 1 assists. Those 32 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Gwynnie Franz, who scored eight points.
South Central's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Whitefield Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Presentation the next time they take the court. Whitefield Academy will head out to face Presentation at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, while South Central will host them on Friday.
