The Eagle Mustangs will square off against the Timberline Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Eagle is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let Meridian get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Stephen Egan looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kristian Fusco, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Mike Stebel was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Eagle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Timberline came out on top against Kuna on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Wolves took their matchup against the Kavemen 10-5. Surprisingly, this marked the Wolves' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Logan Thistle was excellent, going 2-for-5 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Isaac Mills, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.
Timberline's victory bumped their record up to 7-15. As for Eagle, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Eagle has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Timberline struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Eagle came up short against Timberline in their previous matchup on April 3rd, falling 10-7. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
