4A Region 1 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Amory's Tyler Sienkowski recorded the longest rushing play in 4A Region 1 this season in his game against Tishomingo County last week. Sienkowski ran for 81 yards on the play and finished with 138 on the day as his team defeated the Braves.
Itawamba Agricultural extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Corinth, 48-13. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Indians.
Amory's dynamic duo of Jon David Poss and Dario Robinson proved tough for Tishomingo County to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Poss threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns and Robinson had 92 yards receiving. Jaylon Fair helped Amory's passing attack out by catching two balls for 71 yards.
Ashton Shumpert was the most productive running back in the league this week. In eight carries, he ran for 236 yards as Itawamba Agricultural bested Lanny Jones's team. Charles Moore also contributed to the rushing game with 148 yards on the ground.
The Panthers' Poss and Devin McIntosh have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Region 1 in both passing and receiving yards. Poss has thrown for 1422 yards this season, while McIntosh, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 22 catches for 542 yards. Moore from the Indians leads the league in rushing with 811 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Warriors take on Amory. Corinth is in third place, while the Panthers are in second place.
Itawamba Agricultural was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Doug Jones's team 48-13. The Indians came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 37 last week.
