Rylie Young made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Elliana Applegate was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Mahayla Brown was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Fairfield took on Whiteoak on Friday. The Lions' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 10-0 shutout. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Not much got past Rilee Quickle, who gave up just four hits and racked up 15 Ks to keep Whiteoak off the board.
On the hitting side, Ally Maynard was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs. Another player making a difference was Jorgia Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Manchester's record is now 15-3. As for Fairfield, their record now sits at 15-4.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Manchester has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .571. However, it's not like Fairfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .459. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Manchester came up short against Fairfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 12-8. Can the Greyhounds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
