St. Mary is 0-3 against Providence Prep since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. St. Mary's will head out on the road to challenge the Providence Prep Rams at 8:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, St. Mary's didn't have too much trouble with Memorial Christian Academy on the road as they won 45-27. The win was just what St. Mary's needed coming off of a 60-21 loss in their prior game.
Tyler Zimmerhanzel was the offensive standout of the matchup as he scored 25 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Gage Garsee, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Providence Prep had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 35-34 victory over Methodist Children's Home. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Providence Prep has scored all year.
Maddox Billman was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Clark Morrison was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
St. Mary's now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Providence Prep, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
St. Mary's was taken down by Providence Prep 57-25 in their previous matchup on January 9th. Can St. Mary's avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
