The Serra Catholic Eagles will face off against the St. Joseph Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Serra Catholic has four straight victories, St. Joseph has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Wednesday, Serra Catholic got the win against Ellis by a conclusive 16-1. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.

Kelly Morrissey made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Serra Catholic got a massive performance out of Bailee Dayton, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Dayton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bianca Gajdos, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Serra Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .800. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for St. Joseph's offense. They lost 8-0 to Ellis on Tuesday.
Serra Catholic's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for St. Joseph, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
St. Joseph's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Serra Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for St. Joseph, though, as they've been averaging only 2.3 strikeouts. Will Serra Catholic keep running through batters, or will the Spartans buck the trend?
Everything went Serra Catholic's way against St. Joseph in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, as Serra Catholic made off with a 16-0 win. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
