The Cherokee Trail Cougars will challenge the Saguaro Sabercats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Saguaro's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Cherokee Trail hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Cherokee Trail's pitchers stepped up to hand Putnam City a 12-0 shutout on Monday. With that victory, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Brennan Niewinski tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Cannon Zubeck was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and five RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Kroell, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Cherokee Trail was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Saguaro). Everything went their way against Santa Fe South on Monday as Saguaro made off with an 11-0 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Sabercats needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
AJ Busseri looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kingston Sinner, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Bentley Elrod, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Cherokee Trail's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Saguaro, they now have a winning record of 5-4-1.
Saguaro's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cherokee Trail hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329.
