The Riverdale Raiders had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They blew past Canterbury 76-36 at home. For Riverdale, this counts as revenge for the 53-39 loss the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2019.
Riverdale's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Juan Ortiz led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Ortiz pulled down eight or more rebounds. Konnor Vonhagen was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with eight rebounds.
Riverdale is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. As for Canterbury, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-15.
Riverdale will be playing in front of their home fans against the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Aubrey Rogers is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Canterbury, they will square off against the Vikings at TBD on Tuesday. Bishop Verot presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Cougars in Florida (the Vikings are ranked 106th, while the Cougars are ranked 572nd).
