The La Joya Community Fighting Lobos scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They rang in the new year with a 67-58 win over Gila Ridge. Winning may never get old, but La Joya Community sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
La Joya Community's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makuach Makuei, who scored 21 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Josiah Hale, who scored 16 points along with five assists.
La Joya Community's victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-11. As for Gila Ridge, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 3-13.
La Joya Community will look to defend their home court on Friday against Da Vinci at 7:00 p.m. Gila Ridge won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Apache Junction at 12:00 p.m. on January 6th. Hopefully Apache Junction focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday.
