Valley is 1-8-1 against Eldorado since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Golden Eagles at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Valley is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Tuesday. They came out on top against West Mesa by a score of 5-1. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Marshall Tafoya got the start for Valley and what a start it was: he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alex Hernandez, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Caden Barth was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Eldorado took on Rio Grande on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Ravens.
Cooper Burak tossed a big game, pitching 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits.
At the plate, Nathaniel Jaramillo was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Maddox Gonzales, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
