The Lutheran South Academy Pioneers and the Pasadena Eagles will round out the year against one another at at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Two weeks ago, Lutheran South Academy ended up a good deal behind St. John XXIII and lost 62-43.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Anna Schepmann, who posted eight points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Natalie Browning, who earned nine points and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Lutheran South Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Pasadena was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Crosby an easy 66-42 win. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1295th, while the Cougars are ranked 642nd).
Like Pasadena, they lost despite seeing results from several players. Emily De La Garza led the charge by going 8 of 15 on her way to 19 points along with five boards and five steals. That was a full 45.2% of Pasadena's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caryme Molina, who put up 12 points.
Pasadena's loss dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Lutheran South Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Lutheran South Academy has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Pasadena struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Lutheran South Academy came up short against Pasadena in their previous matchup back in November, falling 46-37. Will Lutheran South Academy have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
