Taylor is 9-1 against Umatilla since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wildcats will take on the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Taylor will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
If Taylor beats Umatilla with seven runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Wildcats walked away with a 7-2 victory over Seabreeze on Monday.
Savannah Pearson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Taylor got a massive performance out of Taylor Lane, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits Lane has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Amya Ramos, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Taylor kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Umatilla). Everything went their way against Crescent City last Thursday as they made off with a 21-0 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their one-run performance the game before.
Mittie O'Brien made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. O'Brien was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Umatilla let Brook Thomas and Aliyah Duncan run wild. Thomas went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Duncan went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Hannah Sayre, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Taylor's record is now 14-9. As for Umatilla, their record now sits at 8-14.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Taylor hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .384. However, it's not like Umatilla struggles in that department as they've averaged .336. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Taylor was able to grind out a solid victory over Umatilla in their previous meeting back in March, winning 10-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
