Canutillo hasn't had much luck against Chapin recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will challenge the Huskies at 6:00 p.m. Canutillo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Canutillo after they put the first run on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Burges by a score of 9-8.
Abby Lujan was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Izzy Salazar, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Chapin came tearing into Wednesday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Silver Foxes with a sharp 22-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won 18 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Jaedyne Armendariz made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and four runs. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Addy Rocha was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Josy Jaime-Garcia, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Chapin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .472. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in 18 consecutive matchups.
Canutillo's defeat dropped their record down to 8-21. As for Chapin, their record now sits at 23-6.
Canutillo's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Eagles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game.
