The Girls Prep Bruisers will take on the William Blount Governors in a tournament on Saturday. Girls Prep is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
While Girls Prep didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Boyd-Buchanan by a score of 12-9 on Thursday. The game was the first time the Bruisers have beaten the Buccaneers on their field since April 27, 2021.
Addison Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off only two hits. Smith was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Girls Prep got a big performance out of Jayla Gladden, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. Ansley Bratcher also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Girls Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Boyd-Buchanan only posted a batting average of .130.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, William Blount's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Sequatchie County by a score of 8-6.
Chloe Merriman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Trinity Johnson, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Girls Prep pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for William Blount, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.
William Blount's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Girls Prep has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .482.
