The Sunnyslope Vikings and the Perry Pumas (ranked 61 and 16 in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile match. Sunnyslope slipped by Perry 53-52 on Friday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Sunnyslope's disadvantage in MaxPreps' national basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Perry is ranked 16th).
Sunnyslope's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was John Mattingly, who scored 14 points along with 7 assists and 5 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Mattingly has scored at least 25% of Sunnyslope's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jai Anthoni Bearden, who scored 10 points.
Sunnyslope now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Perry, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season.
Sunnyslope will play host again and welcome Mountain Ridge, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Perry's road trip will continue as they head out to face Boulder Creek at 7:00 p.m. on December 15th.
