Edgewood Academy has gone 3-0 against Southern Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Edgewood Academy Wildcats challenge the Southern Academy Cougars at 2:00 p.m. Edgewood Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Last Sunday, Edgewood Academy rang in the new year with a 67-54 win over Restoration Academy. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Restoration Academy are ranked 322nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Edgewood Academy found their leader in sophomore Lexie Smith, who went 14 for 31 on her way to 37 points and three steals. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Edgewood Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Newton, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 17 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Southern Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap back in November of 2024 as they fell 35-30 to Edgewood Academy. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost three in a row.

Edgewood Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Southern Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Edgewood Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Southern Academy in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 35-30 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Edgewood Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
