The Christian Academy are taking a road trip to take on the Atlantic Christian Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, The Christian Academy put up the most runs they have all season on Thursday. They blew past The Pilgrim Academy 22-8. With that win, The Christian Academy brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Avery Burghart made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and one run. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, The Christian Academy got a massive performance out of Tori Townsend, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Townsend a new career-high. Maddy Spitalie also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
The Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .608. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Atlantic Christian had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Conquerors as they made off with a 16-4 victory. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by seven runs or more this season.
Taylor Sutton was a standout: she fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-5. Isabelle Alford was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
The win made it two in a row for The Christian Academy and bumps their season record up to 5-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Atlantic Christian, their record is now 5-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. The Christian Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Atlantic Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
The Christian Academy took their win against Atlantic Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2016 by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for The Christian Academy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
