The Bella Vista Broncos are taking a road trip to challenge the Woodcreek Timberwolves at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
On Monday, Bella Vista came up short against Christian Brothers and fell 9-6.
Bella Vista saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kylie Lair, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Gianna Gambone was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Woodcreek had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Tigers.
Maryn Macneil made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Camryn Kelley and Nicole Fonti did most of the damage at the plate: Kelley went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Fonti scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Fonti has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Reddell, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Woodcreek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Inderkum only posted a batting average of .179.
Woodcreek pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Bella Vista, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bella Vista hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like Woodcreek struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bella Vista took their victory against Woodcreek in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bella Vista since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
