After flying high against Knoxville Central last Friday, South-Doyle came back down to earth. South-Doyle fell just short of Powell by a score of 15-12. The result was a vexing reminder to the Cherokees of the 27-13 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head Oct. 25.
They got one touchdown from Elijah Young. Additional support came from defensive powerhouse Lex Scott, who racked up nine tackles.
South-Doyle's defense was a presence, and it made life painful for the quarterback and got past Powell's offensive line for a total of four sacks. Leading the way was Tashaun Patrick and his two sacks.
South-Doyle's overall record now falls to 7-3. The victory for the Panthers kept them a perfect 10-0.
The Cherokees will square off against Cherokee at 7 p.m. ET next week. The Cherokees have the odds in their favor, so they'll need to guard against complacency. The Panthers will take on Lenoir City at 7 p.m. ET at home. The game looks good for Powell since they are the big favorites in the MaxPreps rankings.
