East Wake is 1-6 against Fike since November of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The East Wake Warriors will head out on the road to take on the Fike Demons at 6:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: East Wake has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Fike will arrive with nine straight wins.
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for East Wake, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-45 loss to Hunt. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for East Wake in their matchups with Hunt: they've now lost three in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Cadyn Edwards, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sh'miah Hutchinson, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Fike only won by two when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 44-point they dealt Smithfield-Selma on Wednesday. Fike claimed a resounding 58-14 win over Smithfield-Selma on the road. Given Fike's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while Smithfield-Selma is ranked 595th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
East Wake's defeat dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Fike, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with that victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.
East Wake was taken down by Fike 56-29 when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Fike's Jewel Brewington, who scored 18 points along with seven assists. Now that East Wake knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
