The Phillips Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their 11th straight loss. They fell 58-46 to Vina. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Phillips in their matchups with Vina: they've now lost eight in a row.
It was another big night for Sara Harper, who scored 19 points along with nine assists and seven rebounds for Vina. Harper is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Mikala Mitchell, who scored 12 points.
Phillips bumped their record down to 1-13 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.8 points per game. As for Vina, their victory bumped their record up to 9-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Phillips will take on Brilliant at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Brilliant presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Phillips in Alabama (Brilliant is ranked 196th, while Phillips is ranked 425th). As for Vina, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hackleburg at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
