The Excelsior Charter Eagles lost against the Sultana Sultans back in January of 2020, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Excelsior Charter took a serious blow against Sultana, falling 81-37. Excelsior Charter was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-19.
Sultana was led to victory by Sergio Moreno and Codey Root. Moreno dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds, while Root scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Root grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Uribe, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Excelsior Charter has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Sultana, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-11.
Excelsior Charter is on the road again on Friday and play against Academy of Careers & Exploration at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Sultana and Burroughs will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Burroughs is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
