Reeltown is 0-10 against Horseshoe Bend since April of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. The Rebels will host the Generals at 4:30 p.m.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Reeltown and Valley meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Rebels fell just short of the Rams by a score of 8-6.
Crisdan Dunn was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. She also launched a home run, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Kira Chappell led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-5 with one home run, one stolen base, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Paisley Burdette was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run.
Meanwhile, Horseshoe Bend had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Volunteers a 6-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Generals, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Reeltown, Horseshoe Bend also got a great game from a two-way player: Brynlee Alford. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Alford was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marigrace Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one home run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Caralina Tidwell, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Horseshoe Bend lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Horseshoe Bend pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Reeltown, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.
