After both having extra time off, the Battle Mountain Longhorns and the Oasis Academy Bighorns will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Battle Mountain comes in on five and Oasis Academy on four.
If Battle Mountain beats Oasis Academy with 17 runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Battle Mountain never let Silver Stage get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory last Saturday. Fans of the Longhorns have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Meanwhile, Oasis Academy got the win against Incline last Saturday by a conclusive 19-2. The Bighorns are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the fourth contest they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Kirsten Detomasi made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Detomasi was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Oasis Academy got a massive performance out of Taylynn Maynez, who scored four runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs Maynez has posted since back in March of 2024. Grace Laca was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Oasis Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .605 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Oasis Academy's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Battle Mountain, their record is now 5-0.
Battle Mountain took their victory against Oasis Academy in their previous meeting back in February by a conclusive 19-10. The rematch might be a little tougher for Battle Mountain since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
