After each having a week off, the Del Valle Conquistadores and the Lubbock-Cooper Pirates will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Del Valle will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
Del Valle is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Burges: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Conquistadores blew the Mustangs out of the water with a 63-19 final score. The Conquistadores might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by 30 points or more this season.

Del Valle had a senior duo take command as Jake Fette threw for 459 yards and three touchdowns while completing 79.2% of his passes and Dante Eytcheson gained 154 total yards and four touchdowns. Those 459 passing yards set a new season-high mark for Fette. Ivan Lopez also helped out with an impressive 112 receiving yards.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Del Valle, racking up 27 points in total. All came from Alex Medina: he went 9-for-9 kicking field goals for 27 points.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Del Valle's defense and their five sacks. Aaron Gutierrez was especially locked on to Burges' QB and sacked him twice. Gutierrez is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, Lubbock-Cooper was able to grind out a solid victory over Wylie two weeks ago, taking the game 42-35. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by exactly seven points.
Lubbock-Cooper's win came from a few key players Del Valle will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Chamayne Johnson Jr, who rushed for 139 yards and one score, and also caught one TD. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 102.7 rushing yards per game. Ryan Rodriguez Jr was another key player, throwing for 227 yards and four touchdowns.
Lubbock-Cooper was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 204 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 182 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
Del Valle's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Lubbock-Cooper, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Thursday's game might be decided on the ground. Del Valle has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 167.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lubbock-Cooper struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 177.9 rushing yards.
