The Okeechobee Brahmans will challenge the Lake Placid Dragons at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Okeechobee has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Okeechobee came up short against South Fork on Tuesday, falling 11-1. The Brahmans haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Okeechobee saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Melaine Bonilla, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Haylee Pendrey also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Lake Placid made easy work of Frostproof on Thursday and carried off a 12-6 victory. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.
Emily Tharp was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Jillian Garduno and Hadlee Prescott did most of the damage at the plate: Garduno scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Prescott went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Paige Person was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Lake Placid hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Frostproof struck out ten times.
Lake Placid pushed their record up to 10-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Okeechobee, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12.
