Football Recap: Graham Wins Going Away Against Burkburnett

Graham won the last time they faced Burkburnett and things went their way on Friday too. The Steers blew past the Bulldogs 34-14. The Steers pushed the score to 28-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bulldogs cut but never quite recovered from.

Jace Gill continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 300 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 81 yards and one score on only ten carries. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (135.4). A healthy portion of Gill's aerial production (103 yards to be exact) went to Brodie Martin, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Graham was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 202 rushing yards. They are a perfect 3-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Another reason for the win was Graham's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Burkburnett's QB won't forget Denton Lauster anytime soon given he sacked him three times. Lauster also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with six. Graham got some further help from Tripp Mahaney: he forced one fumble, made nine total tackles, and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception.

Graham is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 24.3 points. As for Burkburnett, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Graham is set to face off against their familiar foe Bridgeport at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Burkburnett will challenge rival Eagle Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant wideouts against one another: Griffen Johnston and TERRY STARKS.
