Basketball Recap: Swanton Takes a Loss

Swanton was the 46-39 winner over Ottawa Hills when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Swanton Bulldogs took a blow against the Ottawa Hills Green Bears on Tuesday, falling 51-20. The defeat leaves the Bulldogs without a win on the season.

When it comes to explaining why Swanton lost, don't look at Jessica Finfera. Despite the final result, she posted seven points and six steals. Finfera is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lexie Yeager, who had four points and three steals.

Ottawa Hills' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kendell Skiver led the charge by going 7 of 8 on her way to 18 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Van Slooten, who went 7 of 15 on her way to 18 points and seven rebounds.

Swanton's record is now 0-4. As for Ottawa Hills, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1.

Swanton will square off against Hicksville at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Swanton is facing Hicksville at the right time seeing as Hicksville is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Ottawa Hills, they will take on Toledo Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ottawa Hills is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53 points per game this season.
