AA District 6 recap Oct. 3, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Tyner Academy, who took down 76th ranked Tyner Academy, 28-19.
Hixson moved up to 131 from 185 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AA District 6. The Wildcats climbed the ranks as a result of a 28-19 win over the Rams.
Tyner Academy's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. WILLIE STEWART threw for 49 yards and HASSAAN MILLER had 30 yards receiving. On the ground JOSEPH STURKEY chipped in 105 yards. SADIK SPENCE helped Tyner Academy's passing attack out by catching one ball for 14 yards.
Tyner Academy's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rams feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. TONY WALTON has thrown for 153 yards and two touchdowns this season, while MILLER has four catches for 106 yards. STURKEY leads the league in rushing with 321 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Wayne Turner's team takes on Chattanooga Central. The Rams' offense has racked up 160 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Pounders have allowed only 192 on the year.
A big matchup in AA District 6 this week will be when East Hamilton takes on Hixson. The Hurricanes are in first place, while Jason Fitzgerald's team is in third place.
East Hamilton extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating East Ridge, 42-0. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Hurricanes.
