It was a good run, but Ozanam unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 76-65 defeat to Independence Home School. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Ozanam lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being A.W. Poke, who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Talan Olmstead, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Independence Home School to victory, but perhaps none more so than Joe Young, who scored 18 points. Jake GBusse was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Ozanam's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Independence Home School, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1.
Ozanam won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Christ Prep Academy at 12:00 p.m. on January 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Christ Prep Academy is ranked 390th in Kansas, while Ozanam is ranked 385th in Missouri). As for Independence Home School, they will head out on the road to face off against Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
