The Greenbrier East Spartans will challenge the Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Greenbrier East let Independence stack five runs on them in the fourth inning on Tuesday but luckily Greenbrier East prevailed anyway. The Spartans came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 10-6. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won three in a row.
Brady May made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Graham Brewster and Zion Detko did most of the damage at the plate: Brewster went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Detko went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Detko is becoming a predictor of Greenbrier East's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 7-9 when he doesn't). Clay Patton was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Woodrow Wilson had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They walked away with a 10-5 win over the Red Devils.
Like Greenbrier East, Woodrow Wilson also got a great game from a two-way player: Tyler Wilhite. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Wilhite was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Brady Williams was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Maddex Sims, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Woodrow Wilson's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Greenbrier East, their victory bumped their record up to 16-9.
Everything went Greenbrier East's way against Woodrow Wilson in their previous meeting back in March, as Greenbrier East made off with a 13-7 win. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Flying Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
