The Broughton Capitals will face off against the Enloe Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Broughton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.8 points per game this season.
Broughton is headed into the match having just suffered their closest loss since January 23, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Sanderson by a score of 56-53. The defeat continues a trend for the Capitals in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now lost four in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Hudson Fitzgerald, who posted 14 points. Storm Taylor was another key player, going 5 of 7 en route to 12 points.
Meanwhile, Enloe was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 62-58 heartbreaker at the hands of South View. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 422nd, while the Tigers are ranked 175th).
Like Enloe, they lost despite seeing results from several players. Preston Williams led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Daylen Chamblee, who earned seven points along with five assists and three steals.
Even though they lost, Enloe was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Broughton's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Enloe, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Broughton has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 31.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Enloe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.4 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Broughton came up short against Enloe in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 63-59. Can Broughton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
