The Academy hasn't had much luck against Prospect Ridge Academy recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wildcats will welcome the Miners at 6:00 p.m.
The Academy's tournament run continued when they took on Prairie View on Saturday. The Wildcats fell just short of the Thunderhawks by a score of 3-2.
The Academy took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-12, 25-27, 25-17, 15-7.
Despite the defeat, The Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Honor Montoya had 15 digs. Those 15 digs set a new season-high mark for Montoya.
Prospect Ridge Academy extended their home winning streak to nine games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from Genevieve Forsman. The Miners walked away with a 3-1 win over St. Mary's Academy on Wednesday for which the team can thank Forsman, who had 15 digs and two aces. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 15 or more in each of the last five games she's played.
While Prospect Ridge Academy might've won, it sure wasn't easy: St. Mary's Academy scored at least 20 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 25-20.
The Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Prospect Ridge Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: The Academy has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 8.7 aces per game. However, it's not like Prospect Ridge Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 14.6 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
The Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Prospect Ridge Academy when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 3-1. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Miners have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
