Trinity Catholic is 0-10 against Trinity Prep since February of 2016 but things could change on Friday. Trinity Catholic will head out on the road to take on Trinity Prep at 4:30 p.m. Trinity Catholic's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Trinity Prep's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Tuesday, Trinity Catholic got the win against Mount Dora Christian Academy by a conclusive 11-1. The Celtics haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Liliana Ornelas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hailey Wilson, who went 3-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Julianna Ortega, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Trinity Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mount Dora Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .286.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Trinity Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over Lyman on Tuesday.
Mckenna Hawley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 19 Ks. Those 19 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Olivia Agnew was excellent, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Hartung, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Trinity Prep pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Trinity Catholic, their record now sits at 9-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Trinity Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Trinity Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 13.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Trinity Catholic couldn't quite finish off Trinity Prep in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can Trinity Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
