II Section I recap November 5, 2013
Sunnyslope extended the longest winning streak in II Section I this week by beating St. Mary's, 27-24. The victory was the 10th in a row for the team.
Browne fell to Sunrise Mountain 60-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Isaias Ochoa ran for 114 yards in the loss.
Sunnyslope's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Michael Humphrey threw for 192 and 3 touchdowns and Jacob Eshelman had 114 yards receiving. On the ground Nicholas McCarthy contributed 110 yards. Brandon Cruz helped Sunnyslope's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 35 yards.
Damon Pieri's team's dynamic duo of Humphrey and Eshelman proved to be unstoppable against the Knights, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Cruz helped Sunnyslope's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 35 yards.
He went 15-22 with 1 interception.
Michael Hatcher made the biggest impact on defense this week as Copper Canyon defeated Carl Hayden Community. The 6-foot-2 defensive back grabbed 1 interception and recorded 1 fumble.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, St. Mary's' Gabe Losada and Tino Vidales have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Losada has thrown for 3,448 yards this season, while Vidales has 70 catches for 1,184 yards. The Vikings' Tim Fryson leads the league in rushing yards with 1,448.
Tolleson led the league in scoring this week by notching 55 points on Camelback. Billy Wilson threw for 72 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 74 yards during the win.
