Northeastern hasn't had much luck against Holmes recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Eagles will square off against the Aces at 1:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with seven defeats in a row, Northeastern turned things around against Pasquotank County on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Eagles have posted against the Panthers since June 8, 2021.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holmes). They never let Hertford County get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory on Monday. Considering the Aces have won six contests by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Myles Cobb was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Holmes got a massive performance out of Daniel Hare, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Hare a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashton Stallings, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI.
Holmes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hertford County only posted a batting average of .111.
Northeastern's win bumped their record up to 3-13. As for Holmes, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Northeastern suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Holmes when the teams last played back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
