The Decatur Central Hawks were the 61-58 winner over the Terre Haute North Vigo Patriots when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Decatur Central took a 50-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. Decatur Central has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Decatur Central's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eric Hopson, who scored 15 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hopson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Melakih Cunningham, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Terre Haute North Vigo found their leader in underclassman Cam Fennell, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points and 0 assists. It was the first time this season that Fennell scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kavish Reddy, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Decatur Central has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season. As for Terre Haute North Vigo, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Decatur Central will take on the Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Whiteland has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 335 points over their last five games. As for Terre Haute North Vigo, they will be playing at home against the Maroons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Robinson will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 438th in Illinois, while the Patriots are ranked 27th in Indiana).
