Softball Recap: Lafayette Has No Trouble Against Center Hill

While Lafayette put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Center Hill. The Lafayette Commodores blew past the Center Hill Mustangs 12-0. The result was nothing new for the Commodores, who have now won four matches by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Jenny Dreher was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mary Madison Kelley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Braleigh Crowe was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Lafayette was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .424 or higher in three consecutive games.

Lafayette pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Center Hill, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, Lafayette will venture away from home to challenge Southaven at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lafayette's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Southaven's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Center Hill, they will face off against Saltillo at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
