The Oxford Wolverines put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 17-6 win over Torrington. For Oxford, this counts as revenge for the 34-7 loss Torrington walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2015.
Leading Oxford to victory were Christopher Bobbie and Matthew Mcguire. Bobbie rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown, while Mcguire rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Mcguire was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 59 yards.
Oxford's win was their fourth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 8-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-11 Derby (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.5% over those games). As for Torrington, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oxford will take on Ansonia at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Ansonia's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season. As for Torrington, they will head out on the road to face off against Wilby at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wilby comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
