The Los Altos Eagles will square off against the Mountain View Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Los Altos is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
The home team had come away the winner the last seven times Los Altos and Wilcox had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Los Altos sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over Wilcox on Thursday. While the Eagles didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Kaylyn Cox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Makayla Mase, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Emily Hanken also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Mountain View was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They fell just short of Homestead by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Spartans have suffered since February 28th.
Mountain View also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Allison Marcelino gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. Marcelino has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
Los Altos' win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-5. As for Mountain View, they dropped their record down to 3-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Mountain View's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Los Altos hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. It's a different story for Mountain View, though, as they've only averaged .249. Will they be able to contain Los Altos' hitters?
Los Altos might still be hurting after the 9-3 loss they got from Mountain View in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Los Altos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
