After a string of seven wins, the Timnath Cubs's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They were dealt a 78-51 defeat at the hands of Rocky Mountain. While losing is never fun, Timnath can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while Rocky Mountain is ranked 28th).
Timnath lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Gretchen Deines, who scored 12 points. Tiana Guzman was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Timnath struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Rocky Mountain pulled down 25 offensive rebounds.
It was another big night for Meela Delap, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds for Rocky Mountain. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Chicco, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
Timnath's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Rocky Mountain, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Timnath will look to defend their home court on Friday against Valley at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Wednesday. As for Rocky Mountain, they will head out on the road to square off against Fairview at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Fairview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 last Wednesday.
